Rock sugar, a healthy alternative?!!
“If it is healthy, I shall give it a chance, if not, I shall never give it a glance”
We frequently hear statements such as, “I cannot eat cakes…it has too much sugar.” Or My dietician said to avoid refined sugar because it has no nutritional values and causes an increase in blood sugar levels”
Now the question arises is that what healthier alternatives should I use to satisfy my sweet tooth??
To get the full nutritional and medicinal benefits, one can consider using Rock sugar (also known as Mishri or Khadi Sakar), honey, dates, coconut sugar, maple syrup, or Jaggery Powder regularly in moderation.

Mishri is made with raw sugar crystals processed in water and milk. It contains none of the chemicals used to manufacture refined white sugar it is made after evaporating sugarcane juice and is a healthy substitute for the normal table sugar.

Mishri is highly regarded in Ayurveda for its cooling nature and ability to balance Vata and pitta and dosha. Mishri is one of those simple home remedies from your kitchen that has proved to be effective against cold and cough.
Take half a teaspoon of mishri and black pepper, make it into a paste and consume it at night to cure a sore throat. A powder of mishri and black pepper with lukewarm water helps in alleviating cough and also sweeps out excess mucus.
Mishri is an excellent sweetener for tea and coffee instead of refined sugar.

Refreshing Drink
Mishri is commonly used to make a refreshing drink during the summer season. It has a calming effect on the mind and body and alleviates stress. It is a source of instant energy and can balance the body and relaxes the senses.
- It helps to balance acid levels in the blood. you can have it after an elaborate meal that promotes digestion.
- It initiates digestion immediately and serves as an after-meal dessert.

Mostly in Indian restaurants, we are served with a mixture of saunf(fennel) and mishri. Though to many people, it looks like a mouth freshener but the vitamins, minerals and amino acids present in the mishri do wonders in helping the digestive system.
Khadi – Shakar can also help as a laxative and can help to treat vomiting and nausea
Crush 2 cloves (laung) and boil in 100gm water for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes mix some mishri(rock sugar) in it, drink it, and Follow this procedure after every 4 hours will give you 100% relief in puking
Do you have low levels of hemoglobin? Eat rock sugar. Apart from regenerating blood circulation in our body, it is also useful in anemia, pale skin, dizziness, fatigue, and weakness. Therefore, people suffering from low hemoglobin levels can consume ‘mishri’. If you add saffron and Rock Sugar to hot milk every day, then is beneficial for the immune system as well.
